In
times like this when the world's in distress, it's easy enough for us
to wring our hands in despair wondering what will come of it
all.
It's helpful to remember that God
is in charge of this Universe attested to by -- among other things --
the daily appearance of the sun, the moon and the stars. God
is also in ultimate charge on this Earth. He made
it. He filled it with life. It was upon Earth that
he made man in His image -- male and female He created them.
And it was to Earth that He came, in the person of Jesus Christ, to
make a relationship with Him possible for us -- a relationship that
holds the promise of Eternal Life with God. That visit to
Earth by God was costly. It cost the death of Jesus inspite
of the fact that Jesus had never done anything deserving of
death. Jesus willingly went through that traumatic death for
all the rest of the occupants of Planet Earth, both then and
now. It goes without saying that God has a vested interest in
all of us. He cares for all of us, deeply, and He is in
charge.
Part of God's love for us is
allowing us to be free moral agents -- to have the choice of how we
live. Sometimes individually -- and collectively in larger
groups -- we make wrong choices which result in pain, in death,
bloodshed, carnage, and fear. God wants us to see what works
and what doesn't work and to make right choices. With wisdom
far greater than the totality of man's wisdom God has set the bounds of
what He will allow to happen and what He will not allow to happen, and
it is all for our good -- as is the future time when God will wipe away
every tear and there will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor
pain. (Revelation 21:4)
