Jesus is fully God -- one with the Father and the Holy
Spirit. In some way difficult for humans to comprehend God
chose to fully manifest Himself in the person of Jesus Christ so that
Jesus became our all in all. The first chapter of Colossians
verses 12-20 gives us this insight: "[The Father]...has
qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom
of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have
redemption, the forgivenesss of sins. He
(Jesus) is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn over all creation. For by
him all things were created:
things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones
or powers or rulers or authorities; all
thing were created by him and for him. He is before all
things, and in him all things hold together.
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the
firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the
supremacy. For God
was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,
and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on
earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on
the cross."
Jesus is our pathway to
relationship with God. It is through him that we are
reconciled to God and can have an unfettered relationship with Him -- a
direct relationship -- not one veiled by the law. (2
Corinthians 3)
The relationship that God
eagerly wants to give us is that we share with Him in His God-life as
adopted children, friends and brothers of Christ. John
1:12-13 tells us, "...to all who received him, to those who believed in
his name, he gave the right to become children
of God
-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a
husband's will, but born of God." Paul tells the Romans in
chapter 8, verse 14, "...those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons
of God.
John 15:15 records Jesus' words, "I no longer call you servants,
because a servant does not know his master's business.
Instead, I
have called you friends,
for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to
you." And Jesus Himself said that we can be His brothers and
sisters in Matthew 12:50 "For whoever does the will of my Father in
heaven is my
brother and sister
and mother." Romans 8:29 says that, "...those God foreknew he
also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he
might be the firstborn among
many brothers."
